You use Claude twice a week for short questions and have never seen a usage limit. A colleague insists you should be paying. What is the sound reasoning?

The principle — a plan buys capacity, so the signal to upgrade is running out of capacity, not wanting a feature.

Why the key is correct — Anthropic's pricing describes paid plans as everything in Free plus more usage, along with additional surfaces. Someone who uses Claude twice a week for short questions is nowhere near the constraint the extra usage relieves, and the features they might want are already available: projects work on free accounts, up to five.

Why the others are wrong — no plan makes answers more accurate, since the models are the same. Projects and uploads are not paywalled. And free conversations are not deleted after a period.

The honest test is whether you have ever been stopped mid-task by a limit. Someone who has not been stopped is being asked to pay for capacity they are not using.

Remember this — upgrade when the allowance is the thing stopping you, and not before.
