What happens when you ask Claude to revise content shown in an Artifact?

Claude rewrites the Artifact in its panel, and the panel shows the new version. The chat does not fill up with a second full copy of the document — it records your request and Claude's reply, while the panel holds the current state of the work. Ask for five revisions and you still have one Artifact beside a readable conversation, rather than five near-identical walls of text between you and what you first asked.

Updating in place does not mean the earlier drafts are gone. Each revision is kept as a version, and a version selector on the Artifact moves between them, so you can compare what changed or return to the wording you preferred two rounds ago.

None of this depends on being in a Project. Artifacts and Projects are separate features that are often used together: an Artifact is where a substantial piece of output lives, a Project is where a body of work and its shared context live, and revising an Artifact in an ordinary standalone chat behaves exactly the same way.
